Security officer of the quarter for Q1 of 2024

Security officer of the quarter for Q1 2024 is Michael Mrzyglod

Security Officer of the Quarter for Q1 2024 is Michael Mrzyglod for dealing with a profoundly serious first aid incident.

Michael works at a large storage facility in Oxfordshire and on the day in question a visitor to the site was moving a heavy cabinet from a vehicle when it fell causing a major break to her leg. Her husband was also with her and quickly went into a state of panic and shock. Michael became aware of the incident and quickly made his way to the stricken couple to help and impose a level of calm that was required to avoid further injury or distress. Using his wealth of knowledge, training and by adopting a composed approach to the situation, he was able to reassure them and deliver first aid whilst the emergency services arrived. The arrival of both Ambulance and Air Ambulance took two hours and during this period Michael remained with the couple, despite his shift having finished, and ensure they were cared for until medical help arrived.

It is clear from Michael’s actions that he prevented further harm and distress by controlling the situation from the outset and by ensuring his approach was appropriate and effective.
Outstanding work Michael!

The best audit for Q1 of 2024 award

The best audit for Q1 2024 went to Olubunmi Alebiosu

We undertake penetration tests across all our sites which also incorporate an assessment of the Security Officer on duty. The best audit for Q1 2024 went to Olubunmi Alebiosu (Olu) who works for us at an Aerospace Company Head Office in Bicester.

Olu was confronted by a person posing as a British Gas engineer who had been called by the company to fix an emergency issue. Undaunted by the pressure applied by the person, Olu refused him access to the building and made the appropriate checks to see if he had legitimate reason to be on site.

It was established by Olu that he was indeed attempting to gain unauthorised access and Olu’s action prevented this. The auditor then undertook an assessment of Olu covering the following areas:
– Alertness
– Attitude
– Dress/Presentation
– Understanding of Duties
– On-Site Training
– SIA Licence
Olu scored 100% and combined with his actions to prevent unauthorised access was the worthy winner this quarter. Great work!!

Our Security Officer of the Quarter Award

Our Security Officer of the Quarter Award goes to Bruce Washington who recently had to deal with an extremely difficult and challenging situation.

On the day in question, Bruce was working at Westcott Venture Park, where he has been employed by us for over ten years and provides outstanding work for us and to our customer. During this shift, a male arrived at the barrier and claimed to have just murdered his family and had travelled from Luton to visit King Charles. Clearly this was not a situation that occurs daily on the park and one that needed quick thinking and a calm approach to avoid escalation.

Bruce managed to get the man to park his car and engage with him through the locked gatehouse where it became clear, very quickly, that he was suffering a mental health episode. His behaviour was erratic and Bruce ensured that calmness was maintained and no other people were put at risk. Whilst dealing with this, Bruce was able to alert the management team of Risk Management Security and Mick Stubbs and Aaron Pickering attended site immediately to provide support to both Bruce and our customer Lisa Himpson.

After several hours of talking and sensitivity, the emergency services arrived and the gentleman was able to receive professional help.

A big thank you to Bruce for his incredible work!!

Steve Allmond is the winner of the latest Security Officer award

We are delighted to announce Steve Allmond as the winner of the latest Security Officer award.

We are delighted to announce Steve Allmond as the winner of the latest Security Officer award. For the period July to September 2022 Steve was nominated for this award due to his sterling and successful efforts in dealing with intruders actively engaged in criminal activity.

Whilst on duty at a large business park in Oxfordshire Steve was made aware of activity through a sound he heard at 05:50 one morning. It would have been easy for Steve to dismiss this as simply any other sound, just as many of us hear various noises throughout the course of our working days, but Steve chose to treat this as suspicious and directed one of our Patrol & Response Officers to the property. The two criminals quickly became aware of our security presence and chose to abort their activities and made their escape before any significant crime took place.

This is an excellent example of commercial security proving effective in the face of crime without having to physically intervene or risk injury to themselves. The swift and decisive action taken be Steve thwarted a burglary and for this, we thank him!!

Aaron Pickering presented Matt with a glass award for his outstanding work

Matt scored 100% and the terms used to describe him were alert, polite, efficient and someone who displays a very positive attitude

We regularly assess our Security Officers through penetration tests undertaken by an independent company to evaluate what actions they take when confronted with an unauthorised person attempting to gain access. Each quarter we review all tests and decide on the best audit for that period and without doubt, the most recent award went to Matt Kelsall for his work at Mitsubishi Electric Europe BV.

Matt is an experienced security professional with extensive knowledge of the site where he works as Team Leader, and in June was faced with a person claiming to be the new HR Director of Risk Management Security Services who required access to the premises. The person presented two forms of ID, both of which were fake, and applied pressure to allow him access to the site, however, as Matt didn’t recognise him and was not satisfied that the methods of ID were genuine, entry was refused. After further pressure and attempts to persuade access to be provided, it was clear that Matt was not going to back down and the auditor disclosed his true identity. He was then granted access to the site for the other element of the audit, the inspection. During this inspection the Security Operative is assessed and scored under various categories such as appearance, knowledge of the site, training, attitude and awareness. Matt scored 100% and the terms used to describe him were alert, polite, efficient and someone who displays a very positive attitude.

Aaron Pickering presented Matt with a glass award for his outstanding work. Well done Matt!!!

The John Radcliffe Hospital that forms part of the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust together with the Children’s Haematology and Oncology Services and Oxford Heart Centre, that is within the Hospital, provide outstanding support and care to many.

In the last eighteen months they have shown true dedication and commitment with regards to medical attention required by the granddaughter of our Managing Director, “Little Logan” and our Chairman, John.

The excellent care, commitment and passion for their work is testament to the ethics that are embedded within the Trust and all involvement we have had with them demonstrate a true obligation to deliver excellent care with compassion and respect.

With this in mind and as a token of our appreciation, we have chosen to donate £20,000.00 to the Oxford Hospitals Charity and this will be shared equally between the Oxford Heart Centre and the Kamran’s Children Ward within the John Radcliffe Hospital. It will be used to purchase essential equipment and hospital apparatus that will further assist the Trust in treating patients with heart conditions and cancer.

Reward & Recognition

 Umar Zaman

It can be difficult to pick out only one of our Mobile Patrol Officers for recognition as I genuinely feel the whole team do a fantastic job under ever-changing and unpredictable circumstances. We have used some monitored criteria to support our decision such as good speed awareness, low accident statistics, vehicle maintenance, however other factors such as reliability, good incident management and professionalism can be harder to quantify.

Umar Zaman has been a solid member of the mobile patrol team for over five years now. Umar constantly shows amazing flexibility and commitment to the team effort by; covering for others at short notice, whether it be our manned guarding customers or on other mobile patrol routes, learning multiple patrol routes quickly, and frequently generating high praise from our clients due to his efficient and accurate reporting of incidents. Umar is always willing to go above and beyond during emergency situations to help our clients and continues to be an important asset to our team. I would personally like to commend Umar for his consistent high standard of work over the first quarter of this year and the preceding years he has been with us. Thank you, Umar, a worthy winner!
